The tour starts with the visit to the ancient village of Montefusco, capital of the Principato Ultra since 1531 and seat of the Royal Audience.
During the Risorgimento the former castle-court became a political prison for anti-Bourbon patriots. The prison was so notorious for harsh treatment that Montefusco was called “The Spielberg castle of Iripinia”. After visiting the prison, you will first visit the St. James Oratory with 12th century frescoes, then Palazzo Giordano and lastly the most important historical and artistic buildings in the town. The guided tour of Montefusco ends with a direct experience of bobbin making, an ancient tradition handed down from mother to daughter.
Next stop will be Prata di Principato Ultra where you will visit the Basilica of the Annunziata, a valuable evidence of the Langobard age, with church and Paleochristian catacombs. The tour ends with a visit to one of the most well-known wineries in Irpinia, which has preserved the identity of local viticulture in the production of the three DOCG wines: Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino and Taurasi. After visiting the wineries and the museum, there will be a tasting of local wines and food.
The tour starts at 9:00 when you will meet our guide at Porta San Bartolomeo. Together you will walk to the old town centre (about 5 min.) and visit the main civil and religious buildings with panoramic stops along the way.
At 12:00 before reaching Atripalda, there will be a short stop in Prata with a visit to the Church of the Annunziata. The visit to the wineries is scheduled at 12:30, followed by a buffet lunch at 13:30.
