Your Journey

The first stop is the Abbey of Goleto, which housed a mixed community of nuns and monks and was founded by William of Vercelli. During the visit you will admire real masterpieces of medieval art such as the Febronia Tower, the Chapel of Saint Luke and the big church by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro, which offers an insight into the extraordinary mid-18th century restoration.

The next stop will be in the heart of Irpinia, where you will discover one of the most evocative places of this land, the Mefite. It is a sulphurous lake formed by a pool of water that boils as a result of the gas emissions of the subsoil, consisting primarily of carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid. In some conditions these emissions could be lethal. A place already known by Virgil who, in the Book 6 of the Aeneid, mentions the Valle d’Ansanto, as the place where a mysterious area rises, considered one of the passages into the Underworld. Once in the centre of Rocca San Felice, you will discover a peculiar village of Langobard origins full of narrow alleys, that was rebuilt after the earthquake of the 80s. Walking through narrow streets flanked by typical stone buildings with low portals, you will reach the castle and its tower, dating back to the 12th century, which is one of the most panoramic viewpoints of the area and a place to discover the soul of this land.

Last stop of the tour is one of the most well-known wineries of Irpinia: the visit includes tasting of cold cuts and cheese with wine paring (3 glasses).
